MBC Mid-Winter Newsletter

Hi all members,
Still air, cold days and fog hanging over the lake make for cold boating but there’s beauty in it all if you venture out.

Flat lake makes for easy boating (and cold hands). Some developments to inform you of the work that the Committee continues to do through winter.

AGM
This will be held on Saturday 11th August with a 3.00pm start at the View Street Clubrooms. The meeting is to be followed by drinks and nibbles.

We will issue finalised annual accounts soon - we have them drafted to hand.

Home Creek Slipways;
We have made good the second slipway which previously had the mesh fence around - it is now available for all our own boat launching.

Previously Meridian retained a right for the use of this slipway but that has now been relinquished so we removed the railway iron plinths off it and tidied the area with a digger so it offers an alternative to the regular use slipway.

We will look soon to improve the low water launching of the regular use ramp (hard on axles as it gets holey down there) and at such time will divert launching to the other ramp while the works are happening. Willow clean up between road on Home Creek bridge site and Harbour edge. This will happen when lake levels drop again and we can put in a sustained effort to do the lot in a short time frame.

Family Fun Day
This day offered a change to the Treasure Hunt format and went well with around 20 boats taking part. It was good to see whole families get together for this one.

Moorings
As usual there remains a waiting list for access to these. The Committee never lose sight of the fact that we need to find ways to fill demand here. As said previously once our major liabilities are met (Meridian mortgage and Member Loans for Bridge Repairs) we will focus on creating more moorings at that time. This is not too far away as the last Mortgage payment to Meridian is November this year.
Members are reminded that if they are retaining moorings they are not likely to use it will help if they relinquish them.

We will look too at doubling up on some moorings where the jetties allow this. Remember there are no arrangements in relation to any mooring that are valid unless they have been formally approved by the Committee. We still occasionally encounter changes of vessel on moorings or claims of mooring entitlement that have not been formalised by the Committee.

These instances now are not frequent but members are reminded they do not own the mooring - the club does... Mooring holders rent them and retain them provided they abide by the Rules which are clearly defined and available (check the MBC website for full detail).

Deliberate disregard for these rules may jeopardise your membership and see you lose the mooring. No apologies for reminders on this. It is only right that members expect and get a properly conducted
Mooring Allocation system which ensures fairness for all...without favouritism - especially given there is a shortage. Your Committee has worked hard to iron mooring inequalities out and we are at a stage now where the playing field is level. We are also aware these policies need updating to keep up with changing demand. Watch this space. Key Issue for the Gate is now by post; From now on keys will be issued by post automatically on renewal of membership...along with your membership number sticker. All current and new members will get one at renewal time. Given the rise in member numbers and the logistics of having to organise picking a key up the Committee recognise this has become impractical...especially for those out of the area.

ADDITIONAL RULES AROUND MEMBERSHIP AND KEYS
Since acquiring the Home Creek Property and introducing the key system Club Membership has swelled.

The committee have added rules around access through the gate to the Clubs ramp and facilities.

It is important to note that a member is a person not a boat – and as such.

NEW RULE #1
Any key holder may take one boat at any one time through the gate provided they are going to sail on it throughout
its time on the lake.

NEW RULE #2
A member may lend his boat and key to an immediate family member provided the boats’ trailer is displaying a current membership number.

NEW RULE #3
Aside from the exemptions in rules above - No key holder shall lend his key to any other person or provide access through the gate to any other person or their boat.
The Committee recognize a need to encompass immediate family in facility use - the primary key holder may not always be able to be present.

This new provision now allows for that where previously the rules did not.

See you on the water!
Thanks
Alan
